How do you use "quote" in posting?

My first attempt to use the quote feature did not work. What did I do wrong?

to quote the entire post, click the 'quote' box at the top right hand corner of the post...

to quote selected text in a reply

highlight the words in the previous post you wish to quote
right-click and choose 'copy'

paste the words in the new reply, then highlight the words... then click the small 'quote' box at the top of the reply box...
