John - My gut tells me you are quite right. This one just doesn't look like a long distance runner.
I would call it an eye catching piece of fluff and not one for the long haul.

Well I have jumped in and bought one of these Chinese clocks.
I know it is not a collectors item and I know it might need a bit of TLC but the cost of a real one was out of the question
so this is the next best thing.
It is for a girl and I can't see a mod girl wearing a watch and there sure ain't room in her pocket for one.
I needed something to sit on a shelf or hang on the wall.
Could have got a figurine I suppose or a collectors plate but that isn't me so this is it.
Will keep you advised of how the process works and how my experience pans out.
Shipping will be around $200 but that ain't bad considering the size. Much bigger than a pocket watch.
Which did I get?
The Harris Grasshopper type.
At least it is something different.
TIA

I just got back from the US and now have my Longines wrist watch. It's every bit as good as described and I'm pleased with it.

Clocks have grabbed my attention recently, but since they can't be stashed away in a drawer and need to be put somewhere prominent, there is a technical problem with She Who Knows Best - "You are not looking to buy another clock - I hope?". The meaning is clear....

Sounds like you do not have enough "brownie points" in your account yet.

Irwin,

Its all in training them correctly :D About a dozen years ago I went to an estate sale and brought home a full pickup truck of damaged clocks that I paid 6oo dollars for. The wife ranted an raved that I had paid 6oo hard earned dollars for what she referred to as sticks!

I thought about my misdeeds very hard overnight and went back the next day with a 28 foot rider rental and filled it up with the rest of the estates clocks . When the wife found out the second trip cost $10000, she was literally speechless and has never said a word against my clock purchases since.

Truthfully, before that I was a watch collector and those two days were the first clock purchases I had ever made. I had no idea what I had bought, just figured that they were cheap enough by the pound to be ok.

The members of chapter 52 had a ball with that pile :!: They helped me match up movements to cases, Id'd the stuff for me and over the course of a few months bought enough stuff at about 10 cents on the dollar according to the guides that I about doubled my investment and ended up with a half dozen keepers.

happy hunting,

Bill -Brave? Foolhardy? Suicidal?
I'm glad it worked out so well.

Here's my Longines - I should have wiped the crystal before the photo op.

Irwin, that's sweet-even without the crystal cleaned!
And Bill-thanks. I could use laughs more often-you should hit the 'Cooler for all our sakes!
